Rotary helps eradicate Polio

In 1985, Rotary made a promise to the children of the world that we would eliminate Polio from the planet.

Back then, polio outbreaks were a constant threat around the world with over 1,000,000 people per year contracting this horrible disease. Today, it is less than 1,000, which is a decline of 99%.  Two billion children have been immunized and five million have been spared disability, and over 250,000 deaths from polio have been prevented.

Last year, Rotary teamed up with Bill Gates and announced a partnership where each contributes $100,000,000 (that's one hundred million dollars each) to finally eliminate Polio from our planet. Since then Bill Gates has committed another $255,000,000 to get the job done.
