The Rotaractors ran the VIP department upstairs at Rotorua Has Talent. Scott Van Twuiver, who is a chef prepared all the canapés and nibbles which the VIP's enjoyed. They also served wine, beer and drinks as required. They had a fabulous view of the extraordinary talent on display.
This was a unique event to see the "three generations of Rotary" (Interact, Rotaract & Rotary) working together to make such a special event happen.
VIP's included District Governor Colin Oleson from Te Puke and his wife Colleen, District Governor Elect Peter Signal and his wife Rebecca and number of Rotarians, wives, HOD music and other members of the public.
DG Colin Oleson made the following comments after the event.
Last Saturday evening Colleen and I, together with DGE Peter and Rebecca attended the ‘Rotorua Has Talent’ evening at Rotorua Girls High.
We were most impressed with the event, the organisation, and enjoyed the entertainment.
We were VERY IMPRESSED with the turnout of the Interactors and the Rotaractors. There was obviously a commitment by the Rotoractors to the Interactors. Probably because they see the future flow of their membership coming from the Interactors.
It was a great chance for the three generations of the Rotary organisation, Interactors, Rotoractors, and Rotarians, to come together and support each other in a project I understand was birthed by an Interactor.
It was great to see Martin Hawke and Bronwyn Webster there along with Ken Iles and his wife Ann, and Fraser McKenzie and his wife Dorothy, and Henry Van Twuiver. There were a couple of other Rotarians there as well. I am sure they enjoyed the entertainment as your Rotorua Youth certainly shone brightly.
You may get reports back from locals but I thought it would help to get some feedback from ‘out of towners’. I believe this project has a good future and can be developed further not just for Rotorua but also in other centres where the three strands can work together.
Well done to the Rotary Clubs for underwriting the event. And for giving Colleen and I, and Peter and Rebecca the opportunity to talk with the Interactors and Rotoractors of Rotorua and show our support for their efforts to better their and your community.
Please pass these thoughts on to your Area Presidents when they next meet together.
